Elevating Designs with Patterned Linens

Using Patterned Linens

One 2023 trend that we at Pearl Weddings are OBSESSED with is patterned linens! We love incorporating bold linens into designs for bold and adventurous couples! Many designers tend to steer away from using patterned linens – worried that busy patterns will overwhelm elegant designs. Now, more people are incorporating patterned linens to create stunning and unique designs. Whether it be bold bright napkins or intricate lace table linens, patterned linens are a great way to elevate any design.

The key to using patterned linens and not overwhelming your table setting is incorporating solid colored items. Items such as napkins or gilded flatware is a great way to “ground” the design while also creating a sense of cohesion. Whether it be floral, plaid, or lace, patterned linens are a great way to add a sense of playfulness and whimsy to a luxurious and elegant design.

Floral Linens

For a New England wedding at Saltwater Farm Vineyard, we opted for a blue floral linen from Nuage Designs and paired it with blue glassware and gold accents. Pairing this linen with both complementing solid and accent colors prevented this design from being too busy. Instead, it elevated this classic New England design and created an elegant setting with a modern coastal twist.

Lace

For the same vineyard wedding, another table setting had this delicate lace-overlay table linen placed on top of an off-white linen from Nuage Designs. Additionally, the dinner plate with intricate lace-like detailing perfectly matched the wooden vintage vibes of the vineyard. It elevated the design rather than clashing with the linen because of the use of vibrant florals. This gorgeous arrangement is by Hana Floral Design and is filled with stunning hydrangeas, roses, tulips, peonies, and more. Its bright colors and varying shapes act as the perfect counterbalance to the intricate white lace.

Geometric

This modern farmhouse-esq table setting at Sound River Studios was filled with warm toned florals by Petals and Plates and gold accents. The plaid linen from BBJ La Tavola with brown, yellow, and off-white was complemented by gold candelabras and gold hued glassware, creating a unique folksy-yet-modern vibe to this elegant design. The design at the urban venue was elevated with the use of simple elements such as minimalistic napkins and plates. It is easy for a design with patterned linens, such as plaid, to be overwhelmed. However, using bright solid colors in flowers or candles is a great way to create a sense of balance.

Napkins

Patterned napkins are a great way to play around with patterns without fully committing to bold plaid or textured linens. Patterned napkins are a great way to add some fun textures to a classic design. Pearl had such a great time playing around with the design for this New York wedding at the dreamy Hasbrouck House. These fun and bright napkins from Heather Taylor Home added a perfect pop of color and fun, especially in contrast to the dark wood table and classic white plates.
