This party-loving couple’s Connecticut wedding took place on a perfect summer day — at first. Everyone was making their way from the ceremony to cocktail hour when it began to downpour. Luckily, the tented reception area provided respite from the pouring rain and everyone continued to party like there was no tomorrow!
Sarah and Ben met in Thailand, where the groom grew up and she was studying abroad. After moving to New York City together, Ben proposed in Oaxaca, Mexico. The couple has traveled the world experiencing all kinds of cultures — Sarah is even a travel agent! During their wedding, the lovely couple was sure to share their love of travel with the guests.
The couple’s wild and whimsical wedding took place at the bride’s private family farm in Connecticut where the bride spent her childhood summers with her cousins. It was the perfect venue for the elegant, rustic celebration surrounded by all of the couple’s loved ones. The Connecticut wedding was planned and designed by Pearl Weddings and Events was the perfect embodiment of the eclectic couple that loves to party!
Inspiration From All Around the World
All throughout the day and almost everywhere one looked were decorations inspired by the cultures that the couple loves. While guests trekked through the woods to the ceremony, tissue paper with intricate designs were strung above them. These colorful decorations are called papel picados. They are Mexican decorations that literally translates to “punched paper.”
Continuing on with their love for Mexico, the couple insisted on having a piñata during their ceremony — but with a twist! They wanted a dragon on the front of the piñata to represent the grooms spirit animal. With Pearl Wedding and Events’ own DIY flare, your regular run-of-the-mill piñata was transformed!
But, as often happens in the wedding industry, things didn’t go as planned when the piñata didn’t break open like it was supposed to. So the bride tore it open with her own hands! Inside was confetti and delicious Thai and Mexican candy.
Beautiful red lanterns were hung in homage to China. They were placed all throughout the tent of their reception area along side the glimmering twinkle lights. It took EZ Occasions almost the entire day to set up! The whole display offered a beautiful splash of color to their theme whites and soft pinks and greens.
As guests escaped the rain and gathered under the tent, the food was some of the couple’s favorite meals from around the world such as tacos and paella! And, of course, no party would be complete without a pizza truck!
Confetti, Bubbles, Alpacas, Oh My!
Guests made the scenic trek through the woods from the ceremony to the tented reception area surrounded by floating bubbles. It was just one of many details, while small, made. Sarah and Ben’s wedding was so detail heavy from a design perspective — its every wedding planners dream! Everywhere you looked were design details that made the couple’s wedding day super fun and whimsical. There was sustainable confetti, bubbles in the woods as the guests walked through, and even alpacas dressed in formalwear from Quinnipiac Valley Alpacas!
One highlight of many during the day was the seating chart. Guests were to take a shot from the wall to find their seat. To make it even more fun, the bride made the shots herself using butterfly pea flowers!
All in all, the bride just wanted to have fun on her wedding day. Despite the rain, Sarah, and all of her guests, had a blast.
