WHAT IS THE FIRST STEP TO PLANNING A TENTED WEDDING IN CONNECTICUT, MASSACHUSETTS, RHODE ISLAND OR NEW YORK - A GUIDE TO PLANNING A NEW ENGLAND TENTED WEDDING. - Pearl Weddings & Events Blog

Maybe you just started planning your wedding, or you’ve already seen a million traditional venues. Maybe you have known your entire life that you wanted a tented wedding or maybe you just want something totally unique. Whatever your story is, if you are thinking about planning a tented wedding and you want to know where to begin. You have come to the right place!

Planning a wedding is a lot of work and if you are planning it on your own – more power to ya! I do this as a full-time job so I am always very impressed when couples plan their wedding on their own. If you are looking into a wedding planner and you are not sure what that means, check out my blog post “What is a Wedding Planner & Why Hire One?”.

Ok so, where do you begin? The first thing you need to do is find the location to have your tented wedding.

This maybe obvious but, this is the first step and a lot goes into it. You have to be very imaginative and have a good idea of what you are trying to create for your special day. Every location across New England can provide a completely different experience. When you are looking for somewhere to hold your tented wedding pay attention to how an environment makes you feel! This is so important.

Whenever I am working with a couple and we are scouting out a venue or potential location for their tented wedding I always have them walk the space themselves. I want them to tune into the way the space actually makes them feel.

Good questions to ask yourself:

  1. Can you envision your friends and family gathering around for a beautiful celebration?

  2. Can you feel the excitement and joy you want to experience?

  3. Can you see yourself walking down the aisle to marry the one you love?

  4. Do you like the way the environment makes you feel?

  5. Are you feeling happy, excited, thrilled or even a little nervous?

These questions help ignite your imagination. They help you to start creating a floor plan and a flow for your day. (If you are confused about floor plans and flow, we will cover that in a future blog post so keep following along or sign up to our email list!)If you are in a space where you can imagine the ceremony taking place, your friends and family gathering for dinner, drinks and dancing. Then you may have found the perfect spot!

How do you know when it is the perfect spot? I get this question all the time. Once you get there, you will know. You will be able to answer all those previous questions with ease. Your imagination and ideas will just start to flow. You will feel the excitement, joy and maybe a little nervous too!

Again, your first step to having a tented wedding is finding the perfect location to hold it. It might be a family members property, a beautiful venue, a state park, a nature preserve, your own home, a campground, at a vacation home or lake house, or somewhere else totally unique! In Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island or New York you can find countless locations to host the perfect tented wedding. Get creative and think outside the box!

#WEDDINGTIP: Remember take the wedding planning process one step at a time. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself because you will get overwhelmed very quickly.
